PMFME Scheme
The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme is a Government of India initiative designed to provide financial, technical and business support to micro food-processing enterprises for setting up, upgrading and formalising their businesses.
Key Features of the PMFME Scheme
1. Financial Assistance
Eligible individual micro food-processing enterprises can receive a credit-linked capital subsidy of 35% of the eligible project cost, up to a maximum of ₹10 lakh per unit. The beneficiary is required to contribute at least 10% of the project cost, with the remaining amount generally financed through a bank loan.
2. Support for New & Existing Enterprises
The scheme provides support for both setting up new eligible micro food-processing enterprises and upgrading or expanding existing units. Preference may be given to enterprises involved in products identified under the One District One Product (ODOP) approach.
3. Support for SHGs, FPOs & Cooperatives
PMFME also provides support to Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Producer Cooperatives for eligible food-processing activities, including capital investment, common infrastructure and other forms of assistance.
4. Training & Capacity Building
The scheme provides training and capacity-building support in areas such as entrepreneurship, food processing, hygiene, packaging, storage, marketing, bookkeeping and business operations.
5. Branding & Marketing Support
Eligible groups and enterprises can also receive support for branding, marketing and improving market access, subject to the applicable scheme guidelines.
